Description
Lot #2009 - Ford built over a half-million passenger cars in 1940, but only 8,730 of these were wood-bodied DeLuxe station wagons. This Boyd Coddington work-in-progress started life as one of them, but is now midway through its custom transformation. All body panels are original steel, including large portions of the floorpan. The maple, ash and basswood wooden wagon structure still contains some bits from the original Ford Iron Mountain, with some reproduction parts mixed in. The straight body rests on a custom square-tube steel frame with the same type of DeDion-style rear suspension as the coupe and convertible, though temporary rigid rods replace the rear springs to maintain ride height during assembly. The engine bay and firewall exhibit the result of many hours of custom fabrication. There's plenty of cowl area for a modern V8 engine, and all surfaces have been blended and smoothed before being covered in gray primer; it doesn't take much imagination to envision the finished result. If the same level of quality execution is directed at the final assembly, this stunning Woody stands ready to stun onlookers on the street and show field.
