Description
Lot #2045 - If the 1970 LS6 Chevelle SS454 represents the pinnacle of Chevy's dedication to muscle car supremacy, then this documented, L78 Chevelle SS396 is the next best thing. The only detail separating the 450hp LS6 454 from the 375hp L78 396 is the bore and stroke. Virtually everything else is shared between the two engines. But unlike all-too-many LS6s that unravel upon close inspection and turn out to be mundane 307 or 350 2 barrel cars put under the knife, this Tuxedo Black drop-top has been documented as the real thing and is complete with all the necessary paperwork to prove the point. Sold new at Terry Motor Co. in Onaida, TN, this pristine L78 restoration comes with the original Build Sheet and complete chain of vehicle ownership since new. A solid lifter L78 396 engine, Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed transmission and 3.55:1 12-bolt posi-traction rear axle are present. Ordered without N40 power steering, C06 power top, ZL2 Cowl Induction hood, SS sport striping, or A51 Strato front bucket seats and console, the car's documented original owner Larry Ryan wanted the maximum bang for his buck. Research indicates that of the 2,144 L78 Chevelles built in 1970, perhaps 50 were installed in convertibles.
