Description
Lot #400 - This is a fully frame-off restored, fully loaded Firebird 400 hardtop from the private collection of Jim Mattison, founder of Pontiac Historic Services (PHS). This car has been carefully restored. The car started life in California and spent the majority of the next 45 years there. The frame-off restoration was performed by well-known restorer Mike Flaherty of Custom Designs LTD. Once completed the car has only accumulated test miles, to make sure that everything works correctly. The car was completely disassembled and stripped to bare metal. The subframe was removed and the entire drivetrain was rebuilt. The body of this vehicle still wears all the original sheet metal and the body fit is laser straight. Once the body was prepared, it was given a fresh coat of the correct and popular Mayfair Maze (Code YY), using the best modern Standox base coat/clear coat paint. The subframe was also stripped and all chassis components were replaced and refinished in the correct original factory finishes. The restoration on this Firebird is 100% correct down to the T-3 headlamps and original style Firestone red line tires. The original 400 (YT Code) engine and all associated parts were completely rebuilt. Everything was reassembled and the entire engine assembly was given a coat of the correct Pontiac silver blue engine paint. All exterior emblems were replaced with either new or NOS pieces. Since completion the Firebird has received numerous prestigious awards including the 2007 Pontiac-Oakland Club Senior Gold point judging of 397 out of 400 points. It has also been shown at the prestigious Meadowbrook Concour d'Elegance and Eyes On Design. General Motors - Pontiac Division has borrowed this car for display at numerous company events, including the launch of the 2002 Collector Trans Am at Daytona with Jay Leno. Comes with PHS documents, Window Sticker and awards.
