Lot #1167 - The 1969 ZL1 "Special" Camaro or COPO 9567 ZL1 Camaro was the brainchild of Vince Piggins (responsible for the Z28). They were to be painted Tuxedo Black with Special Gold Striping and given a street detuned version of the ZL1 engine. This engine ran 11:1 instead of 12:1 like the 1969 COPO 9560 ZL1 engines. There were a host of other standard options intended for these Camaros. Unfortunately, the 1969 COPO 9567 ZL1 "Special" Camaro never went into production. However, Vince piggins and his design staff hand-built two prototype cars, one a 4-speed, the other, an automatic, to show off to the GM executives and to terrorize the streets of Detroit. The COPO 9567 ZL1 "Special" Camaro was slated to sell for $8581.60, but was killed after the public reaction to the price of the Fred Gibb's 9560 ZL1 which sold for $7269.00. No one knows what happened to the two original prototype ZL1 "Special" Camaros, but this re-craetion is identical to Vince Piggins famed blueprint and includes the Tuxedo Black paint with special Gold striping and the detuned street version ZL1 engine with 11:1 compression. It includes the Z22 Rally Sport package, M21 4-speed manual transmission, J52 power disc brakes, N40 power steering, D55 center console, U16 tachometer, F41 special performance suspension, ZN2 COPO 9567 springs and G80 posi-traction. It also includes a K85 61 amp generator, K66 transistor ignition, D80 auxiliary valance panel and special wide front spoiler. Take note of the VE3 color-keyed bumpers and unique gold-ringed black steel wheels. The business like interior incorporates the Z87 custom interior trim package, center console and folding rear seat.
