Description
Lot #449 - This meticulously restored and immaculately kept 1940 Chevrolet Special Deluxe 2 door town sedan is a unique car with great history. It has had just one owner since 1994 when it was purchased out of the famed pre-war Chevrolet Collection of Tom Meleo. At the time it was totally original and virtually untouched after a lengthy period in storage. Its all-original, rust-free condition, which was what had caught Mr. Meleo's eyes in the first place when he had acquired the car, made it an ideal restoration candidate. The new owner set about a six year, labor of love restoration culminating in the exacting masterpiece displayed here. In the restoration, the body was taken to bear metal and repainted fabulous, factory original Port Wine Maroon, all the trim was removed and replated, the tan interior was completely redone in factory correct materials and the factory dash finish reproduced by noted expert, Craig Clemons, the 216cid inline 6 was rebuilt as were the original transmission and rear end and even the original shocks were retained and sent out for a meticulous rebuild restoration time consuming process that lesser restorations often skip. In all, the process took nearly six years to complete. Included with purchase are extensive restoration records, information and receipts, photos of the car in the Meleo Collection pre-restoration, the owner's manual and original sales brochure, plus additional restoration notes and parts catalogues. Very few 1940 Chevrolet town sedans are still on the road and this certainly ranks among the very finest in existence.
