Description
Lot #5052 - 1933 Chrysler Imperial C.L. Custom 8 Lebaron Phaeton with copy of Build Sheet and Delivery Ticket. Delivered new to Indianapolis, IN on May 26, 1933. The color is Morocco Sand with brown leather and all accessories. Has a 146" wheelbase with a 384.4cid custom 8 cylinder. Engine No. CL-1302, Lebaron Body No. 172-15 and VIN 7803597. James Melton, a famous opera singer and one of the first major car collectors, acquired this 1933 Imperial in the '40s. Friends of his in Chrysler engineering restored it and installed a '40s Imperial overdrive, a great combination with the 4-speed transmission. James Melton's book, "Bright Wheels Rolling," featured this C.L. in the '50s. The Rockefeller Collection acquired the Imperial from James Melton, then on to Harrah's Collection, re-restored then after Bill Harran's passing on to General Lyons Collection in California. Maintained 18 years in Dale Fowlers Collection. It was entered in the Kirkland Concours d'Elegance, winning a class award and the trophy for Most Elegant, September, 2012. Hemmings Motor News magazine, Classic Car issue #71 August, 2010 has a four page article, very definitive, of this 1933 Imperial Lebaron Phaeton with photos.
