Description
Lot #5017 - Owned and driven by Ronnie Sox. Perhaps the ultimate factory drag car, approximately 50 of these lightweights were assembled by Hurst Performance. Features included specialty made corning glass, lightweight van seats, fiberglass front fenders, hood and deck lid. Cars were factory prepped for the sole purpose as race cars, these special cars came from the factory with a compliance sticker and understanding that the vehicles were for race competition only. This 1968 HEMI Super Stocker was ordered new from Midtown Plymouth of Dayton, OH in mid-1967 by Bill Vanwey. Vanwey took delivery on July 22, 1968. Vawney partnered with Butch Ackman as drivers. Vanwey campaigned the car thru the 1969 season then decided to sell the car. Dayton, OH racer Billy "The Kid" Stepp purchased the car and immediately started the conversion of the car from an automatic to a manual transmission car. During the conversion Ronnie Sox purchased the car. A full history and documentation are offered with this car. The car was raced by Vanwey and Ackman, the next to campaign the car was Ronnie Sox. The car is fully documented from the first owner Bill Vanwey to its current owners. The car has the autographs of Ronnie Sox, Buddy Martin, Herb McCandless, Tom Hoover and Tom Coddington on the hood. A letter of Authenticity accompanies the signatures. A notarized statement of fact is included with Ronnie Sox's signature. This special 1968 HEMI factory lightweight has had a spectacular career. Most recently the car has been on display at Mr. Norms Garage in Rockford, IL, prior to that the car was displayed at the NHRA Museum in Pomona, CA. **NOT STREET LEGAL, SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY**
