Description
Lot #1204 - Absolutely gorgeous matching numbers 1968 Oldsmobile 442, finished in its factory correct (Code Y) Saffron Yellow exterior wrapped around its original black vinyl bucket seat interior. The remarkable thing about this jewel is that it has never been off of the frame, never been disassembled, and retains all of the original California sheet metal that she was born with. The original Build Sheet reflects the fact that she was built at GM's Fremont, CA manufacturing facility on April 25, 1968 and delivered new to Carl Nelson Oldsmobile in San Jose about a half hour down the road. In no time at all, the original owner rushed in to shake hands and sign papers. A little over three years later, the 442 was sold to a gentleman by the name of Gary Urback who through impeccable care and maintenance, kept it in pristine, original condition for the next 32 years. The third owner, Larry Monk, who owned the car from 7/30/2003-3/32/2007, is responsible for its one repaint as well as much of the detailing and freshening up so to speak. During this time, Muscle Car magazine featured this car on the cover of their May 2006 issue and they did a full editorial inside, praising the car of which a copy of the magazine is included. The experts at Thornton Restorations acquired the car in 2009 and again freshened up a few things. The original sheet metal is laser straight all of the way around and the correct (code Y) Saffron Yellow paint is great. Also, the original interior is just that, original, and looks as great and fresh as it did 44 years ago when it sat on the showroom floor. The steering wheel was completely restored and all of the gauges, lights, blinkers, etc work as you would expect. This is a very special car to say the least. Unlatch the hood, and tucked inside the beautifully detailed engine bay resides the original matching numbers 400/350hp engine linked to the original matching numbers Muncie M20 4-speed transmission which feeds power to the original 3.42 posi-traction rear axle. All of the casting numbers as well as partial VIN stampings are all present and accounted for. She starts, runs, drives, steers, and brakes beautifully. She has loads of power and I guarantee you that when you apply your right foot firmly to the floor, you will feel all 440 ft/lbs of torque. The power steering and power disc brakes make driving around town effortless. She's got just the right stance, sitting on a set of beautiful Hurst Wheels and Firestone G70-14 Redline Polyglas tires. Original documentation includes: original Build Sheet, dealer order sheet, title history for five of the six owners, original keys, Muscle Car magazine feature and detailed lists and receipts for items purchased during the partial restoration.
