Description
Lot #1539 - The Barris "T" buggy, 1970 VW C-Cab dune buggy designed by George Barris. Very unique and now rare from the height of the dune buggy craze. George designed and marketed his own line of dune buggy's. Most were built in an Amahiem, California based shop. The C Cab was the most expensive buggy on the market costing twice as much as the other models. Only a few exist. George marketed the "T" buggy with full page ads in magazines, trading cards and a huge selling MPC model kit. Later it also became an AMT model. All incuded in the sale. This rare existing "T" buggy has undergone an extensive body-off restoration with great attention and detail to all the corrrect parts. This is the only one left that was originaly yellow and restored to model kit form. It features a period correct 1,835cc Hot Rod VW engine, 12-volt ignition with two barrel carbs, hot cam and ceramic coated glass pack buggy exhaust. Other nice period touchs are the original Cragar S/S wheels and NOS Bilstien shocks. Most recently it was featured in "Where Are They Now" section of Hot Rod magazine and has a feature coming out in Super VW magazine. It also won The George Barris Award at the Beach Cruisers Car Show in Dana Point, California. This "T" buggy runs and sounds as good as it looks.
