Lot #1088 - One of Shelby's most recognizable muscle cars produced. Hand assembled by A.O. Smith and ordered under special DSO, completed on June 20, 1968 and sold through Jack Loftus Ford in Hinsdale, IL. One of only 32 trimmed in Highland Green with saddle Interior, a beautiful example of the 1968 Shelby GT500 KR fastback. Meticulously restored to concours standards by trained craftsman over a period of 2 years using as many NOS and original parts as possible. The KR was powered by Ford's new for 1968 428 Cobra Jet engine, conservatively rated at 335hp, this car boasts a beautifully detailed example restored to factory specifications. Backed by Ford's venerable Top Loader 4-speed manual transmission and high nodular content rear case. A detailed documentation book compiled during the restoration includes all casting numbers and date codes found. The VIN number was found in both the right front fender apron and under the original Shelby VIN tag. The Shelby interior for 1968 offered upgrades over the standard Mustang. This car retains its original Shelby console and lid, Stewart Warner green line gauges, 140mph speedometer, 8,000 tachometer and inertia reel shoulder harnesses. The interior was optioned with saddle decor bucket seats, tilt-away steering column, AM radio, sport deck rear seat and the Interior Decor Group. This car rides on period correct Goodyear Speedway large letter tires. It retains its other Shelby unique parts including Lucas fog lamps and sequential taillights.
