Description
Lot #413 - This unusual Firebird Formula 455's production breaks down like this. Only 730 were built with the optional L75 455 and automatic transmission. Even fewer were optioned with factory air conditioning and the Ram Air Hood option, which this Formula has. Considering that many Formulas were ordered in Buccaneer Red, Florentine Red, Ascot Silver or Navajo Orange, the fact this one was originally painted Code #56 Desert Sand makes it highly unusual. Plus, it was built with the D98 Judge vinyl side sport stripes in Orange, a striking combination. According to the 1973 Firebird Registry, there have been only 2 other Firebirds of any model documented as having been painted Desert Sand. Then add in even more other desirable extra cost options and you can see this is an unusual specimen. During the restoration, the car was so straight, that the owner decided to professionally refinish it in striking Laser Black and upgraded the brakes to newer style W72 Trans Am 4-wheel discs. Flowmaster exhaust was added to improve the sound. Other improvements/changes from factory original are that the vinyl top has been removed and the rear bumper guards are gone. The optional body side moldings were removed for improved looks and the 14" Rally II wheels have been upgraded with 15" Rallys. The engine is a correct 455 with early casting dates and 1972 date codes, but is not VIN matching. Originally sold in Denver, Colorado, this Formula also has the uncommon High Country Performance Group. Receipts are included that go back into the 1980's showing maintenance and repairs. Also, Original paperwork includes the original Build Sheet, owner's manual and the Pontiac Historic Services Dealers Invoice for authentication of this rare Formula 455.
