Description
Lot #1301.2 - This engine is #001 from GM Performance Parts. With only 427 made and GM's promise to retire the tooling forever, this engine series will always be collectible and #001 will be at the top of the list. Approximately 10 years ago the Winter Foundry located in Canton, OH was closing. Winters had cast the aluminum engine component for General Motors. An observant engineer noted the number on the tool as being used to cast the legendary ZL-1 aluminum engine. Only 71 production cars were ever made with this engine, however over the counter racing versions were produced and sold for years including those sold to Don Yenko in the early '70s and were cast at the same factory with his name. With only minor changes Chevrolet brought this engine back and conservatively rated it at 430hp just as they did when new. Real testing places the engine much higher. With only test miles and development miles totaling less than 300, this engine was used by Classic Automotive Restoration Specialists to develop their COPO Continuation Car Series. Included with the sale is the commemorative badge set from GM Performance Parts and the original display stand. From the Jimmy Richardson Collection.
