Description
Lot #5009.2 - For 1955, a special one-year-only model, the President Speedster debuted as Studebaker attempted to enter the popular sports car segment. Its aerodynamic styling, designed by Raymond Loewy featured a 259cid V8, producing 185hp. Other standard features included diamond pleated leather upholstery with special carpet, chrome plated ashtrays in each door, eight tube radio, map pocket, power steering, power brakes, dual exhaust, back up lights, fog lights, engine turned dash, 8,000rpm tachometer, 160mph speedometer, Carter 4-barrel carburetor, automatic transmission, wire wheel hubcaps, special stainless steel mouldings on the roof and fenders and special gold plated trim. 2,215 President Speedsters were built. This example, finished in two tone Hialeah Green and Sun Valley Yellow, famously nicknamed "lemon and lime", features Studebaker's rarely seen late production frontal styling update. This rust-free Speedster has been restored in Scottsdale by a well respected, long established shop. Mechanicals were thoroughly attended to and most chrome and gold plating was redone. Taillights and exhaust tips are NOS. The correct leather interior and paint was done 10 years ago and can attest to the proper care this car has been given since then. It is now ready to show or be driven. Less than 54,000 original miles.
