Every Barrett-Jackson auction has what has become known as a “Barrett-Jackson moment.” Today’s event had several.

The company has long offered a little something for everyone when it comes to collector cars – but today, that applied to celebrities as well. The excitement in the packed auction arena was off the charts when – in the course of about 90 minutes – an international pop music sensation, a pro boxing champion, a NASCAR racing great and a Hollywood icon all appeared on the Barrett-Jackson auction block.

Burt Reynolds brought his 1978 Pontiac Firebird (Lot #1401) to the stage.

The auction site had been buzzing all week with rumors that Grammy award-winning singer/songwriter Justin Bieber would appear onstage to help sell his beautiful Frozen Blue 2011 Ferrari 458 Italia (Lot #1372), and when he did, the crowd went crazy. Bids escalated quickly, with Bieber sweetening the pot by adding concert tickets and a backstage pass, and the Ferrari sold for $434,500 – a new world record at auction.

Another world record was set when actor Burt Reynolds rode onto the block in his 1978 Pontiac Firebird Custom Coupe (Lot #1401), which sold for $275,000. Popular NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. visited the auction for the first time, coming onstage to help sell a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Resto-Mod (Lot #3006) he had helped design, as well as his #88 race car (Lot #3006.1). The two cars sold as a pair for $400,000 – 100% of which went to benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Undefeated boxing champ Floyd Mayweather also joined us on the block for the first time.

The two top sellers in the collector car auction today were just as impressive as the special guests: a 1964 Aston Martin DB5 (Lot #1397) that went for $1,485,000 and one of the most important pieces of American automotive history, the 1960 Chevrolet Engineering Research Vehicle (CERV) 1 (Lot #1390), which sold for $1,320,000.

As always, the Automobilia Auction started the day off with some strong sales, including a number of kiddy rides, gas pumps, micro and pedal cars – and the top seller, an extremely rare 1950 Esso Aviation neon porcelain airport hangar sign (Lot #9487) that sold for $86,250.

“When you look back at the day, this was one for the record books,” said Barrett-Jackson Chairman and CEO Craig Jackson.

We hope you enjoy the video and gallery below of great moments and top sellers from Super Saturday at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale.
