This 1993 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 “572” Custom Coupe (Lot #665) is one of the many unique cars the Mauzy family is bringing to Palm Beach that were originally from the GM Heritage Collection.
In May 2015, Barrett-Jackson bid a sad farewell to one of its longtime friends, Greg Mauzy, when he passed away in his home state of Texas. A regular at Barrett-Jackson auctions since 2008, Greg was known for his ever-present smile and philanthropic nature – giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to various deserving organizations through charity auctions over the years, much of which was donated on top of his own winning bid.
Greg’s love for American steel, old and new, shined brightly at every auction. He became passionate about adding unique cars to his collection, which at one time numbered more than 130 vehicles. While he did have some Fords, he was a “GM guy” first and foremost, and assembled many unique cars that were originally part of the GM Heritage Collection. Greg owned 25 of these special vehicles at one point, believed to have been the largest privately owned group of Heritage cars in existence. To further fuel his passion, Greg also served on the Board of Directors of the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Prior to his passing, Greg had become more focused in his collector car passion and was rethinking his collection with unique and specific direction. The Mauzy family shares that passion and has decided to continue expanding the collection with Greg’s focus in mind. To keep the collection size manageable and still achieve that goal, the family has plans to donate a number of cars back to Chevrolet through the National Corvette Museum and the GM Heritage Center.
The Mauzys are also bringing 15 special vehicles to the 15th Annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Auction. Two – Lot #398 and Lot #664 – are fine examples of Z/28 Camaros (from 1968 and 1969), and the rest were all once Heritage Collection cars, used by General Motors for styling and engineering research to determine what they would produce in the future. Many true gearheads will remember them from the show circuit, or gracing the pages of magazines like Hot Rod and Car Craft: the ’99 “Coolside II” pickup (Lot #73) with its potent 8.1-liter 496ci V8 engine, a 1993 Corvette LT1 Spyder (Lot #74.1) that’s a unique take on the convertible, and a turquoise ’94 Corvette “572” convertible (Lot #366.1) ‒ one of only two GM C4 big-block Corvettes in existence.
There’s also the only 2004 Suburban (Lot #73.2) in the world featuring “quadrasteer” (the same four-wheel steering system once used on GM trucks), a little Silverado SST pickup (Lot #365.1) that’s anything but little underneath the hood with its 6.6-liter, all-aluminum V8, and a ’93 ZL1 Camaro (Lot #665) with 673 horsepower and 710 ft/lbs of torque that will have every car guy in the house drooling when they hear it run.
Every one of the Mauzy cars headed across the Palm Beach block is unique in some way – shining examples of vehicles not to be judged by appearance alone.
