The second day of Barrett-Jackson’s Las Vegas auction saw hundreds more sought-after collector cars and nostalgic automobilia items make their way across the auction block, and another worthy cause benefit from the auction of an extraordinary charity car.
Some pristine pieces of the past once again started things off Friday morning. The 115 lots of authentic automobilia included a beautifully restored Good Humor Ice Cream Truck pedal wagon (Lot #6267.1) and a Bally’s Skill Derby Horse Race game (Lot #6280) – both from the 1950s – as well as a 1966 Shelby Mustang GT350 car couch (Lot #6286.1) and a Blatz beer neon tavern sign (Lot #6292) dating from the 1930s-1940s. The big automobilia winners of the day were two impeccably restored visible gas pumps from the 1920s (Lots #6285 and #6288).
Las Vegas is known for its fabulous shows, and a star from one of the best was on hand Friday to launch the collector car auction. Travis Cloer, who plays Frankie Valli in “Jersey Boys” at Paris Las Vegas, sang the National Anthem to get things rolling for the day. Cloer wasn’t the only star in the house: Jeff Allen and Meggan Bailey from the TV show “Car Chasers” were on hand to sign autographs for fans next to their Nissan Skyline GT-R, nicknamed Pennzilla.
Barrett-Jackson is known for offering a diverse docket to appeal to seasoned collectors and first-timers alike, and today was no exception. A collection of six microcars ramped up the bidding this morning and a 2007 Ford Mustang GT Tasca Custom (Lot #7001) with a blazing paint job was an early evening highlight. Accompanied by a pair of “Oompa Loompas,” the miniscule motorcars included a 1942 Crosley Convertible (Lot #322), a 1957 BMW Isetta 300 (Lot #322.1), a 1957 Goggomobil T-250 (Lot #323), a 1972 Morris Mini Cooper (Lot #323.1), a 1959 Goggomobil TS-250 (Lot #324) and a 1948 Rolux Baby (Lot #324.1). The modern muscle Mustang was built by Tasca Ford Racing and features a Saleen Supercharger, 486hp and a visor signed by Carroll Shelby.
Another big winner today was the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, who received 100 percent of the $135,000 winning bid on a stunning 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 (Lot #3001) donated by General Motors. This special car for a special cause is the very last of the fifth-generation Camaros built and came with a Letter of Authenticity.
