It’s time to make some room in your collection for more cars or you might be ready for something different to take to the concours or local cruise-in. Perhaps you have attended a Barrett-Jackson auction before, or maybe you have been watching the event on TV for a while and you have seen cars just like yours cross the block. It’s got you thinking, “My car is as nice as those, I wonder how it would do at an auction.”

Each Barrett-Jackson event attracts thousands of pre-qualified potential buyers that have all passed a stringent qualification process to ensure their bids can be backed up when your vehicle is sold on the block.

So how do you get started consigning your vehicle for the next auction? The first step is to submit a Preliminary Consignment Form, which helps Barrett-Jackson evaluate your car. There are several ways to do this.

1970 PLYMOUTH SUPERBIRD – SOLD! $1,650,000

APPLY ONLINE

The easiest method of consigning is on our website. Just click on “Consign” on the home page. This will take you to where you can begin the online application process or explore information and additional options.

DOWNLOAD AND PRINT THE FORM

If you prefer to work on paper, there is also an option from the “Consign” page to download a printable consignment form, which you can fill out by hand and mail with all relevant information and photos.

1967 CHEVROLET CAMARO YENKO – SOLD! $632,500

PHOTOS

You will need to submit a minimum of six photos, one of which needs to be the VIN. The more photos the better, with several different angles, so prospective buyers can get a good look at your vehicle prior to and during the auction from its online docket listing. Providing quality photographs of your vehicle before it crosses the block is an important step in submitting your vehicle for auction (see “How to Photograph a Car” for some pro tips).

SHORT AND LONG DESCRIPTIONS

We require that you submit two descriptions of your vehicle with your application:

Consignors are required to sign off on the vehicle description, signifying that it is their depiction of the vehicle and not Barrett-Jackson’s. Barrett-Jackson won’t embellish, change or deviate from the owner’s vehicle description. It is the owner’s representation of the car.

TITLES

To effectively process your application, Barrett-Jackson will need a copy of both sides of your title. The scans must be completely legible. Of course, the vehicle title and VIN must match. It is also important to note that Barrett-Jackson cannot auction cars with liens – your title must be clear. Unless you are a licensed car dealer, the name and address on the title must match the name and address on the Preliminary Consignment Form. If you have any questions relating to titles, please feel free to call a consignment specialist at 480-421-6694.

Also, Canadian vehicles must be titled in the U.S. to be eligible for Barrett-Jackson auctions.

DOCUMENTATION

Supporting documentation (including factory documents) is not only useful for boosting bidder confidence, it’s also helpful to support any claims made in your vehicle’s description. For example, if you claim that your car’s custom-built engine produces 900hp, provide a dyno test document to support that claim. (Of course, verifiable factory engine output ratings do not need documentation.) Another example: If your Mustang has a Marti Report, submit a copy of that document along with your application.

TIPS FOR SUCCESS

If you have questions prior to consignment, please call 480-421-6694 and speak to a consignment specialist, who will also be happy to explain the consignment process. You can also email consignments@barrett-jackson.com.

The consignment specialist will work with you to present the car realistically, both in its description and value. Through multiple points of contact, consignment specialists help sellers refine vehicle descriptions so buyers will have an accurate portrait of the cars as they cross the block.

CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE A LOT NUMBER

Once your consignment has been accepted, Barrett-Jackson President Steve Davis will assign the vehicle a Lot number, which determines when the vehicle will cross the auction block. Lot numbers are based on a car’s value and the current vehicle lineup for a specific auction day. Each day begins with entry-level vehicles and proceeds to higher-valued cars during “prime time.”

After you and the consignment specialist have agreed on the car’s description and Lot number, it’s time to sign the contract agreeing to pay a seller’s commission of 8% of the hammer price, pay the entry fee (based on the day and time of the Lot number) and submit the actual vehicle title.

Once this is complete, the vehicle will appear on the online auction docket, available to be viewed by millions on Barrett-Jackson.com. (Early entries will also appear on the online Select Preview.)

Your consigned vehicle is now in good hands. Sit back, relax and enjoy the show as your vehicle rolls onto the block at the next auction.
